Fun Little Memories {Spring 2013}

Like all trips, this one had a number of fun little memories that I'd love to share!

  • Enjoying a delicious Mexican dinner on our way to Guacayvo

The salsa was way too spicy for me, but the chicken-- fresh off the grill-- was delicious! We were very hungry after hours of traveling.

  • Volleyball!!!

Ah, sweet memories! I loved the super fun volleyball games we played (almost) every evening with the locals. Despite the fact that the ball was flat most of the time, the ground was rocky and bumpy and there was a 30+ foot drop off not far from our net, I had the most exciting volleyball games ever. Well, honestly, the cliff edge near our net actually made the game extra exciting; we "wasted" a lot of time running after the ball that went over the edge. Though we couldn't really communicate with our Mexican team-mates, we shared many laughs and applause and had a wonderful time together.

  •  Our showers

 In order to get a warm shower, we had to build a fire to heat the water. This kind of became a nightly ritual, where a crew sat outside by the fire stoking it, while we each took turns showering as quickly as possible.

You can see the little metal water heater on the right
and the stove underneath it that had to be fed
constantly in order to keep the water hot.

  • Water balloon battle

Our water balloon fight started when Roberto (Sandra's 15-year old adopted son) discovered that I had balloons. Though I couldn't understand him at first, I soon realized he wanted to fill one with water and get Jonny. Soon, an intense water balloon battle was underway with most of the Guacayvo kids against Jonny. I just watched, laughed, and supplied the kids with balloons. ;)

  • Our Tarahumaran Dresses

We loved the beautiful, bright colored Tarahumaran outfits that my mom, Heather, and I bought some skirts.

  • Taking pictures

Ask anyone from the trip you'd like, I loved taking pictures! There were so many great memories and so much lovely scenery to capture.

These were just a few of the fun little memories that made the trip extra fun and special. :)
